Manipulating glass: 

Three layers of glass were used in this piece.  The 9" square is placed on the kiln floor.  Heat slowly rises to a temperature of 1475 degrees.  Wearing welders gloves the metal manipulating rods push or pull the molten glass.  This procedure requires two people as the lid must be lifted and the glass moved quickly w/o much heat loss.  The results are unique and beautiful.
